Credit cards?

20 May

I’m going to start college soon, and I’m being told by many people that I should get a credit card and “establish my credit” by making payments on things on time. People have tried to scare me by telling me that if I don’t buy a new car or a credit card via a store in the mall, I won’t be able to purchase a house in the future, because I “won’t have established good credit” and “won’t be able to get a loan”. My initial reaction is that they’re lying to me in order to sell me credit cards, but is there something to their arguments? Is it possible to get home loans without a history of good, or any credit? What’s the best option in a case like this?
Why would I need a credit card if I don’t plan on having credit in the future? I don’t need credit, and I feel we’ve been brainwashed into thinking it’s necessary.

Are there home loans that are given based on proof of income or something other than credit history?

It really seems as though people assume credit has to be a part of their lives; I’m not sure that’s true.

does opening store credit cards help your credit score for the future?

04 May

im trying to figure out how this whole credit score thing works, just for information to know in the future. but im really just wondering if opening store credit cards is a good idea to help my credit score. i already have a couple and i pay them off every month (if i even use them every month) so its not like id run up a huge bill and then make the minimum payment.
so really the question just is: do store credit cards help your credit score?
thanks

Credit cards: Is it better to pay off the full balance or make payments?

31 Mar

Say you had a balance of 500$ on your credit card. When the bill came, would it be better for your credit to pay off the 500$ right away, or make above the minimum payments?
One of my teachers told me it was better to pay off the balance immediately, and one told me it looked better on your credit to make payments. (To show you are responsible and can make payments for future loans.)

If credit cards are in my name only will my spouse’s credit score be effected if I default on a payment? ?

23 Mar

I have several credit cards in my name only in which I have fallen behind in payments. I plan on paying each one off one by one, lowest balance first, therefore I can at least see progress! I have decided against a credit counseling agency and I am planning on negotiating with the creditors myself when I have the funds to pay the balances off. I do know how this is going to effect my credit score. Unfortunately,, this is the route I needed to take in order to learn a huge life lesson. We had excellent credit up until now. I stoped working back in May and this is what the consequences of that decision are. My concern is that this will effect my spouse’s credit score as well. Our home mortgage is in both of our names. In the future we may sell our home,(that would be when I would pay-off all of my debt) however the next mortgage would be in his name only. I would appreciate any advice-thanks…..
