How do you determine the future value of multiple single cash flows?

09 Jun

Hi, I am unsure to determine, if you deposit $100 today and $200 at the end of this year and also deposit another $200 in 2 years from now, assuming that you can earn an interest rate of 4.5%p.a. on your investment, how much would you have in exactly 5 years from now?

Could you please show your working out.

Cheers :)

why is it not possible to determine the future value of a perpertual stream of cash flow?

06 Jun

Like answer # 4, yeah i think the value of the perpetual cash flows is infinite, not constant and simply perpetually increasing.

Future Value and Multiple Cash Flows?

02 Jun

an insurance company is offering a new policy to its customers. typically, te policy is bought by a parent for a child at the child’s birth. the details of the policy are as follows: the purchaser makes the following sex payments to the insurance company:
1st bithday: $900
2nd birthday: $900
3rd birthday: $1,000
4th birthday: $1,000
5th birthday: $1,100
6th birthday: $1,100

after the child’s 6th birthday, no more payments are made. when the child reachers afe 65, he or she receives $500,000. if the relevant interest rate is 12 percent for the first six years abd 8 percent for all subsequent years, is the policy worth buying? solve necessary calculations.

More Cash or Down payment on a house, hedging inflation?

05 May

I’m contemplating putting 25% of my savings to lower my monthly payment for a home refinance. The net monthly payment would be lowered by $140/mo which does not seem too much, but what about long term projection and the fact I’m saving interest also? I see this as a way to hedge inflation since I’m taking dollars that will be inflated most likely in the near future and loose value in a standard savings or CD. Is this the wrong way to look at the situation?

Calculating annuity cash flows?

25 Apr

If you put up $20,000 today in exchange for a 8.5 percent, 12 year annuity, what will the annual cash flow be?

I’m using a financial calculator, I am just having a problem setting it up as the annual cash flow bit throws me off…is it asking for future value then?
