My Mother had a reverse mortgage loan for about nine years. At the start of the loan ,an annuity premium of $3735.00 was added to the to the loan. This was to pay her if she lived 14 years into the loan.,but she did not . Should that amount be deducted from the total amount of her loan?

I am 53 years old and made the mistake of putting my savings into an annuity only four months ago. the entire?

17 Apr

I am 53 years old and live in Ohio and made the mistake of putting my savings into an annuity only four months ago. the entire amount is money Ive already earned and paid taxes on it. The amount is $100,000. Now, my health, home, etc are in jeopardy. can I get my money out? I understand there is a surrender fee. what are the steps to liquidating this.
what I really need to know is if I cashed in the annuity and took the huge surrender fee, would the money I get be taxable again as income and would I have to pay a 10% penality to irs for early withdrawal? the money I put into the annuity has already been claimed as income and I paid the taxes and penalities on it last year?

Can you report a tax deduction (tuition payment made in 2006) on next year’s (2008) tax return?

11 Apr

I made a tuition payment in 2006. Unfortunately, I am unable to receive a “tuition deduction” or any sort of credit on this year’s tax return because my income was too small. I was thinking of not reporting the tuition this year, and instead carrying it over to next year’s return, since my income will be signnificantly higher next year. Are you allowed to wait and report a tuition payment made last year on a future tax return?

HRBlock made LG error on my return, but says I have to wait til IRS finds it to do amendment. Is that correct?

09 Apr

Went to HRBlock for 2006 taxes. They made an error and said I didn’t have to pay taxes on an early IRA disbursement.(YIKES) I had them review it, and different “tax-pro” admitted the error. They say I have to wait until IRS finds the mistake & sends me a letter; or finds it & fixes it & sends me a letter; or completes my return w/out finding the error. Shouldn’t we send in an amended form NOW instead of waiting?? They have me getting a large refund, which is wrong. Now my CT state return is wrong, and so are my kids’ FAFSA’s. I think HRBlock also made a mistake using the HOPE Credit, and on one of my deductions.

What should I do with the money I made selling my house?

01 Apr

I recently relocated and sold my house. I gained around 33k in profit. I have tons of cred. card debt and I am debating what to do with the money. My mom thinks I should save the money for another house but with this debt I would never get approved for a mortgage. My cred. score is good cause I never miss payment. I want to save 10k of it for an emerg. fund or maybe to use as future downpayment. My 23k leftover will earn maybe 4.5% interest in savings while my CC debt racks up 15%+ interest a mo. I am living paycheck to paycheck cause of this debt. But if I send 23k to reduce my CC debt by about half i will be able to save more money & have cash to spend on necessities instead of using my CCs. Help! Do I send the 23k to pay down CCs thus reducing my expenses, debt and saving myself thousands in future interest or do I save now & continue to live try to pay off these bills slowly? I have a kid on the way in a few months & one of our goals is to either move to a 2BR apt or buy a house

Can we apply payments made to property mgt., for yard work that was not done, toward future rent?

31 Mar

We are still paying for yard service along with our monthly rent but, at least now we there is someone dong the work. Can landlords collect for services that are not rendered?
Actually the landlord signed a contract with a maintenance company and we pay for the service to the Prop. Mgmt. We paid for 3 months of service before the landlord hired a yard service. We would like to apply those 3 months of payments we made for yard service toward our rent.

The reason for the question is a family friend who is an attorney is Oklahoma handled the settlement for me. However, the law in OK is different and he is not sure how it is handled in GA. He said I may have to now hire an attorney in GA.
