What is the best way to apartment search by myself for my future husband and I without getting overpriced?

12 May

WE want to find a place with all utilities included, which is very possible around here. My fiance works a lot so I have to do it alone, and I have seen the way the male landlords will give me prices a lot higher then they give him. And I swear that I am a good looking woman. He makes very good money but we want to get a place that has reasonable rent so we can save for a down payment when we buy a house in a few years. Our wedding is in August and we are going to wait to buy a house until we have a baby. I just don’t know what kind of role to play or attitude to go with when meeting the landlords. That’s sad because I’m currently earning my 2nd master’s degree in Psychology!!! Any suggestions would be great! Thanks.

You should only see listings where the rent is already posted, so the landlord can’t bump it up on you.

Try a website like rent.com. You might want to try a rental agent or real estate broker that does rentals. They will know which include utilities and will not be gender-biased.

So do what less educated people do. Read the classified ads.

In Nevada there are leasing agents that will help prospective tenants find rentals that are way cheaper than whats listed in on-line advertisements.
Maybe you should call a real estate office and see if they have leasing agents in your area. Here it is free because the landlords pay the agents fee, but check to make sure it is free to you before working with anyone.
